Brajbhusan Dhurve
Braj Bhushan Dhurve (b. 1986) hails from the village of Dindori which lies on the banks of River Narmada in Madhya Pradesh. A Gond artist, Dhurve creates paintings that reflect his surrounding’s flora and fauna along with the customs and festivals of his tribe. The artist’s inspiration comes from stories told by village elders, and a simple yet profound belief that God would be pleased by his art. His paintings exude a simplicity that is a characteristic of tribal art across the world. Modest in from but striking in impression, the paintings emphasize story-telling rather than the realistic depiction of nature. The Gond artist continues his tribe’s artistic tradition which is said to be more than a thousand years old and native to the region. Dhurve has been recognized by TRIFED (Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited) under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. His works have been exhibited in France, U.K., and extensively around India.
