Punkaj Manav
Punkaj Manav (b. 1979) received his B.F.A. and M.F.A. (Sculpture) from the Delhi College of Arts. Drawing a parallel with music, Manav’s works follow a continuum; it bears no trace of a reference to anything recognizable but still has a harmony of its own. According to the artist, art has a spiritual dimension and can transcend the ‘every-day’ experience, reaching an elevated plane. Keeping in mind an ‘objectless state’, with freedom and passion, he invents forms that go beyond what is found in immediate nature. This free state can appear anarchic on the surface but in fact offers limitless opportunity for creative expression; the paintings evolve layer by layer into a mystifying objects that are lovingly and painstakingly made.Manav has held solo exhibitions at the Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi (2006); CISFA Art Gallery, Nagpur (2010), and Artists’ Centre, Mumbai (2010).
